Igor Thiago Drives Brentford 3-0 Win Over West Ham Fixtures
West Ham fixtures got tighter after Brentford beat them 3-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium, a result that ended the visitors' three-game unbeaten run and pushed Tottenham closer to escaping the Premier League relegation zone. Igor Thiago added a second-half penalty for Brentford, while West Ham left with no goals from 13 shots and four attempts off the woodwork.
Thiago and Damsgaard Finish It
Konstantinos Mavropanos put Brentford ahead in the 15th minute with an own goal, and West Ham never recovered enough to turn the match around. Thiago then scored from the penalty spot after El Hadji Malick Diouf fouled Dango Ouattara in the area, and Mikkel Damsgaard finished the scoring late.
Thiago's penalty was his 22nd Premier League goal of the season, and Brentford's third goal was the seal on a first win in seven matches. The home side needed that lift, and the score line brought them up to sixth in the table, three points above ninth-placed Chelsea.
West Ham Misses Add Up
West Ham had an equaliser ruled out by VAR, then watched Crysencio Summerville hit the crossbar and Tomas Soucek strike the post later in the match. Mads Hermansen was also caught stranded out of his area when Brentford missed an open goal from the edge of the area, a rare escape for the visitors in a match they still failed to score in.
The loss left West Ham two points above Tottenham, with Spurs able to move out of the relegation zone by beating Aston Villa on Sunday. For West Ham, the margin is slim and the pressure now sits on every league result that follows.
