Obinna Ekezie Jr Commits to Louisville, Reclassifies to 2026

obinna ekezie jr committed to Louisville on Sunday and will reclassify to the current 2026 cycle. The 7-foot-0, 220-pound center from Orlando, Florida, is set to join the Cardinals in the summer for the 2026-27 season.

Louisville Lands Ekezie Jr

Ekezie had been listed as a five-star prospect in the Class of 2027 before the move to 2026. He was the No. 1 center in that class in On3/Rivals' in-house rankings and, and the 247Sports Composite had him as the fourth-ranked prospect in the 2027 cycle.

That profile gave Louisville a late edge in a crowded chase. He also held offers from Alabama, Houston, Kentucky, UCLA and others, and he visited Louisville's campus last week before choosing the Cardinals.

Southeastern Prep Production

The commitment is built on a sharp jump in production at Southeastern Prep. In 31 games last season, Ekezie averaged 17.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 60.2 percent from the field.

His rise started before that. After beginning his prep career at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Prolific Prep, he transferred to Southeastern Prep last offseason and followed with around 10 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two assists per game as a sophomore. He was named a Third-Team MaxPreps Sophomore All-American.

Highest-Ranked Louisville Commit

Louisville also added a prospect with a record-setting rating. Ekezie's composite rating sits at 0.9986, which surpassed Samardo Samuels' 0.9985 mark from the Class of 2008 and makes him the highest-ranked prospect in the modern recruiting era to commit to Louisville.

He had previously visited Arkansas, and a planned visit to Michigan this past weekend was cancelled before he went to BYU instead. For Louisville, the more immediate change is simple: the Cardinals are bringing in an elite frontcourt piece a year earlier than expected, and he arrives with a class ranking and production profile that already separate him from the usual recruiting haul.
