DFES Contains Herdsman Lake Fire Perth by 11.55am

Fire perth crews contained a bushland blaze at Herdsman Lake by 11.55am on Monday after flames broke out in the lake’s centre island just after 10.30am. Two DFES units from Osborne Park were sent to the scene after multiple Triple Zero calls.

Emergency WA issued a Bushfire Advice alert for residents in Glendalough, Osborne Park and Wembley because smoke drifted from the fire. People were told to avoid walking trails around the lake and to watch their surroundings while crews worked.

Herdsman Lake smoke alert

The fire burned through the centre island of Herdsman Lake, a popular lake in Perth’s northern suburbs. That placed the response in a public area used by nearby residents and made the smoke warning relevant beyond the immediate fire ground.

DFES said crews discussed bringing in air support to help gather firefighting intelligence as they pushed to extinguish the blaze. No water bomber crew was on standby because winter is a low risk period, leaving ground crews to handle the early response.

Osborne Park response

The first crews came from Osborne Park, where two DFES units were called just after 10.30am. Their arrival followed multiple Triple Zero calls, which brought emergency responders to the lake while the fire was still developing.

By 11.55am, DFES said the fire was contained. The cause had yet to be determined, leaving investigators with the remaining task of working out how the blaze started before the smoke warning can fully fade from the area.
