Uk Weather Forecast Bank Holiday: Scotland, Northern Ireland see 19C highs

Most of the UK is set for a mild and mostly dry uk weather forecast bank holiday on Monday, with temperatures ranging from 11C to 19C. Scotland and Northern Ireland should get the best of the sunshine, while southern England and South Wales face a risk of heavy, thundery downpours.

The forecast gives holidaymakers a mixed day to plan around: England and Wales are expected to stay mostly cloudy, but sunny spells should develop in southern England and South Wales. Northern Scotland could also catch a few showers into the afternoon.

Saturday’s Kew Gardens high

The latest outlook comes after the weekend’s top temperature reached 23.2C at Kew Gardens, London, on Saturday. That was still below the warmest May Bank Holiday weekend on record, which reached 28.7C at Northolt in London in 2018.

A funnel cloud was spotted over Scotland on Saturday evening, while most of England was dry but overcast on Sunday afternoon after rain across the north of the country in the morning. Most areas were expected to remain dry into Sunday night, with temperatures unlikely to fall much below 5C to 10C.

Monday’s Scotland and Northern Ireland

For Monday, the clearest sunshine is expected in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Southern parts of the UK face the sharper risk, with downpours and some heavy, thundery showers possible in southern England and South Wales.

That leaves the bank holiday with a split forecast rather than a uniform washout or a fully dry day. People heading out across England and Wales may need to plan for cloud and sudden showers, while those farther north are more likely to catch brighter conditions.

Next Week’s Cooler Turn

The rest of the week is expected to turn cooler, with variable cloud, occasional sunshine and a few showers mainly across northern parts of the UK. Wednesday next week is forecast to be the coolest day, with highs just below 10C in the north and around 15C in the south, before Thursday edges up by a degree or two.
