Peter Andre says 53-year-old self thinks about death more
Peter Andre says he thinks about death more now than he did as a kid, a shift he links to Joanna Lumley’s remarks on mortality. The singer, 53, wrote that the thought of reaching 93 in 40 years now feels closer to the surface, even as he says he still feels young and energetic.
“Joanna Lumley is 80, can you believe it! In the run-up to her milestone birthday, she made some big comments about how she wanted to embrace death as much as life,” Andre wrote in his new! magazine column. He added: “I really admire that because it can’t be fun knowing that time is running out. As you get older, you realise that time is the only thing you can’t pause or get it back.”
Joanna Lumley at 80
Lumley turned 80 on May 1 and said she would rather see her mortality as a friend who is waiting around than as a colossal enemy. She also said she believes not eating meat holds back the ageing process, while making clear that her husband Stephen Barlow is not a vegetarian and that he is wonderful.
Andre’s response is personal, but it also lands at a moment when he is in the middle of a major career comeback with his new album, Legacy. He has Junior, 20, and Princess, 18, with ex-wife Katie Price, and three younger children with Emily MacDonagh, whom he married in 2015.
Legacy and family time
“I still feel very young and energetic, but I think about death a lot more now than I did as a kid. In 40 years I’m going to be 93, the same age my dad is now. It’s a scary thought. But you have to enjoy the here and now. By the way, thankfully, dad is doing great at 93!” Andre wrote. That leaves the story with a simple pressure point: the closer he gets to his next career phase, the more openly he is measuring it against family, age and the time he says cannot be paused or got back.
