Brentford Close in on €20m Jannik Schuster Deal
Brentford are close to signing jannik schuster from FC Red Bull Salzburg in a reported €20 million move, with a verbal club-to-club agreement in place. The 19-year-old centre back could head to the Premier League in the summer after becoming a regular starter in Salzburg’s defense this season.
Schuster’s Salzburg rise
Schuster has made 28 competitive appearances this season and earned a first-choice role in Salzburg’s back line. He also scored his first Bundesliga goal against Austria Vienna on matchday 28, a sharp marker for a defender who has already built a full senior workload at 19.
The reported fee would place him alongside Nicolas Seiwald as the seventh-most expensive Austrian transfer ever if the package reaches €20 million. For Salzburg, that creates the possibility of a major sale from a player who has already moved from rotation depth to a fixed place in the team.
Brentford’s Premier League push
Brentford sit seventh in the Premier League table and would already have a ticket for the UEFA Conference League in that spot. They are one point behind sixth-placed AFC Bournemouth, with the top-six picture carrying added weight because sixth place could also lead to Champions League qualification if Aston Villa win the UEFA Europa League, qualify for the UEFA Champions League, and finish the league season in fifth place.
That makes the timing of the Schuster move direct: Brentford are targeting a defender who has already handled a full season at senior level, while Salzburg face the kind of sale that can alter a squad fast. Schuster, an Austrian youth international and the son of former ski jumping coach Werner Schuster, would be joining a club still inside the European places and still chasing a higher finish.
