Kerry Face Donegal as Dublin Draw Louth in Gaa Draw

The gaa draw set Kerry against Donegal and Dublin against Louth in the first round of the All-Ireland football championship. The 16-team field now has its opening route fixed, with the first-round ties spread across the last two weekends of May.

Kerry and Donegal

Kerry were drawn to play Donegal in a meeting that anchors the Round 1 bracket. Dublin’s pairing with Louth gives the draw a second headline tie, and both matchups sit inside a format that splits the winners and losers immediately after the first round.

Tom Ryan, the GAA ard stiúrthóir, helped with the draw process alongside Central Competitions Control Committee chairperson Brian Carroll. That process matters because Round 1 decides more than the first opponents: the eight winners move into Round 2A, while the eight losers drop into Round 2B.

Dublin and Louth

Dublin were drawn to meet Louth again in the opening round. That gives the Leinster side a direct path into a competition structure that keeps the first-round winners apart from the first-round losers before the field is cut again.

In both Round 2A and Round 2B, the first team drawn will have home advantage. The four winners of Round 2A go straight to the quarter-finals and sit out Round 3, while the four losing teams from Round 2A are drawn against the four winning teams from Round 2B for places in the last eight.

May Schedule and Final

The first-round ties involving Munster and Connacht counties will be played on the weekend of May 23rd and 24th, while the Ulster and Leinster counties go on the weekend of May 30th and 31st. The Ulster and Leinster deciders are scheduled for May 17th, and the Munster and Connacht finals are being played this weekend.

The format leaves no room for drift: Round 1 decides the split, Round 2A and Round 2B decide the next layer of home advantage, and the final four from Round 2A stay clear of Round 3 before the quarter-finals are set. The All-Ireland final is scheduled for Sunday, July 26th.
