Fabregas says he will return to Premier League as Chelsea Manager

Cesc Fabregas says he will return to the Premier League one day, a direct answer that keeps the Chelsea manager chatter alive while he remains in charge at Como. He is not in a hurry to leave a club that were fifth in Serie A and still in contention for Champions League qualification.

Fabregas on Chelsea

Asked about a Premier League return, Fabregas said “of course” and added: “The Premier League is the best league in the world.” He also said: “I’ve always been very, very clear about it. I felt it as a player, I feel it as a coach, as a fan.”

The comments land after Chelsea were looking for yet another manager in April, when the board sacked Liam Rosenior and handed the job to Calum McFarlane until the end of the season. McFarlane won his only game in charge against Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, and Fabregas was among the names linked with the vacancy, along with Andoni Iraola.

Como and Fabregas

Fabregas is coaching Como in the middle of a strong run, and he framed the move as a project he does not want to rush away from. “It’s beautiful what we are living here,” he said, making clear that the present job is still holding his attention.

He added that his approach is rooted in how he sees the game, not in chasing short-term fixes. “If I coach only to get results, I will not do it,” he said. “I do it because of the passion and because I want to do it my way.”

Fabregas' coaching notebook

That approach goes back to a notebook he started at Arsenal, where he kept a little black book of tips and tricks during his playing career. Fabregas said he kept adding to it before he moved to Barcelona, when he was “maybe 22 or 23,” and returned to it at the beginning of coaching.

His description of his style was blunt. “I could not coach long ball, second ball,” he said. “If you want to play long ball, second ball, I’m sorry I’m not your guy, because I don’t feel it.”

Fabregas also quoted José Mourinho, saying: “I still have 30 years to work.” That line fits the way he is treating the Chelsea noise: as a future possibility, not a reason to leave Como now.
