Galway United Face Derry City Fc In Monday Night League Test
Galway United return to action against Derry City Fc at FIND Insurance Celtic Park on Monday night, with both clubs coming in from Friday draws in the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division. Galway manager Caulfield called it a difficult task and said he hoped his side could carry their second-half performance into the trip north.
Caulfield Targets Another Response
Caulfield did not hide the size of the assignment. "They are a very good side. They've some really good players. It's a quick turnaround as well. Hopefully we can carry Friday's second half performance into Monday."
That is the immediate test for Galway, who sit in 7th position and are just below Derry in the table. A win would sharpen the gap between two teams already separated by a narrow band of form and position.
Derry City Under Tiernan Lynch
Derry are managed by Tiernan Lynch, who took them to a second placed finish last season and arrived this term with a rebuilt group after a number of new signings. Darragh Markey is among the additions, while Michael Duffy has been in scintillating form.
They go into the match after a 1-1 draw against Bohs on Friday night, a result that left them in mid-table despite being viewed by many as one of the title favourites for 2026. Galway, for their part, drew 2-2 with St. Patrick's Athletic on the same night and were also defeated by Derry at Eamonn Deacy Park earlier this season.
FIND Insurance Celtic Park
The meeting at FIND Insurance Celtic Park gives Galway a quick chance to answer that earlier defeat and judge whether the second-half lift from Friday can travel with them. Tickets are available through the away supporters terrace link, and the game will also be streamed on LOI TV.
For Galway, the route is simple: take the Friday response, carry it into a harder venue, and try to move past a side that still has enough quality to sit above them while carrying the weight of last season's second-place finish.
