John Robertson Set to Leave East Kilbride After 32-Goal Season

john robertson has played his last game for East Kilbride and will move on from the League Two champions after a season in which he led Scotland’s scoring charts across all competitions with 32 goals. Mick Kennedy said the forward will leave in the coming days and weeks, closing out a run that also brought 11 assists and back-to-back promotions.

Robinson's last East Kilbride goal

Robertson marked that swansong in the 5-0 win over Clyde, opening the scoring after 72 seconds and taking his League Two total to 20 goals. The result secured the title for East Kilbride and completed back-to-back promotions for Kennedy and his forward.

Kennedy removed any doubt about the future when asked whether the club could keep him for next season. “No we won't and I'm sure that will be announced in the coming days and weeks, that John will move on elsewhere.”

Kennedy on Robertson's exit

He said Robertson’s impact ran far beyond the numbers. “He has been a magnificent servant for the club and he has made some contribution. He has been a significant servant to the club, made a massive contribution to the club and we have played a big part in his career so he moves on.”

Kennedy also tied the departure to East Kilbride’s wider approach. “But that is what we do here. The recruitment in the summer will be a lot of young boys coming in, players coming out of academies and things like that.”

That leaves East Kilbride preparing to replace its top scorer while Robertson moves into the next stage of his career. Last month, Raith Rovers had offered him a deal, and he was also up for the PFA Scotland League Two Player of the Year award on the night of the article.

His exit lands with the title already secured, but the numbers he leaves behind are hard to ignore: 32 goals, 11 assists, and a decisive role in the season that carried East Kilbride to the League Two crown. Kennedy’s final word on the move was straightforward: “We give players the platform to move their careers on and John is one of those people. We wish him all the best.”
