Chelsea Contact Khusanov Representatives Over Summer Move
Chelsea have made contact with khusanov’s representatives as they weigh a summer move for the Manchester City defender. The interest points to a defence that still needs more than one fix after Levi Colwill’s ACL injury in pre-season training.
Chelsea’s centre-back search
Khusanov is one of the names under consideration as Chelsea look at defensive options for this summer, and the club may try to sign one or two centre-backs. Trevoh Chalobah has been Chelsea’s best centre-back this season, which shows how thin the room for error has been in that area.
The 22-year-old moved to Manchester City last summer and did not play much in the first half of the season. Since then, he has become a regular starter in Pep Guardiola’s team, which is part of why Chelsea are now looking at him as a possible addition rather than a long-shot gamble.
Manchester City’s decision
City are unlikely to let him go, and Khusanov may not want to join a club without Champions League football. That leaves Chelsea chasing a player who has already settled into Guardiola’s side while trying to solve a problem that became more urgent after Colwill’s injury.
Chelsea have also been linked with Strahinja Pavlovic of AC Milan, but Khusanov sits near the top of the short list because of the contact already made with his representatives. The next step depends on whether Chelsea can turn interest into a deal for a defender they believe could help lift the level of the back line this summer.
