Dario Amodei: Jensen Huang says engineering will drive 75,000 jobs

Jensen Huang said dario amodei that engineers will be central as AI reshapes work, and he tied that view to Nvidia’s plan to double its workforce to 75,000 employees over the next decade. The Nvidia cofounder and CEO said intelligence will create new industries and brand-new jobs, but he also warned that some roles will disappear.

At IEEE’s awards ceremony last Friday, Huang said, "We now recognize this general purpose technology we call intelligence as an opportunity to create new industries, create brand-new jobs". He added, "But of course, it will shape every job. Some will no longer be necessary. Many new ones will be invented beyond our imagination today."

Huang on engineers and AI

Huang said engineers are the people who take inventions and push them into something "safe, beneficial, ultimately transformative to society". That puts engineering at the center of the AI transition, not on the sidelines, and it fits the Bureau of Labor Statistics expectation that employment across engineering disciplines will grow faster than the national average.

Nvidia’s 75,000-employee plan

Nvidia plans to double its current workforce to 75,000 employees over the next decade. The scale of that hiring target suggests the company expects sustained demand across AI, energy, and defense, not a short-lived spike around one product cycle.

Lori Mills and Huang’s path

Huang also linked his views to his own path, from moving to the U.S. from Taiwan in the 1970s to studying electrical engineering at Oregon State University and meeting Lori Mills in a classroom at 17. He recalled telling her on their first date that he would be a CEO when he was 30 years old. The tension in his message is hard to miss: AI may erase some jobs, but Huang is betting that engineering still needs more people, not fewer.

The unresolved question is whether Nvidia’s hiring plan will keep pace with the broader demand Huang described, or whether the company’s 75,000-employee target will need to stretch even further as AI, energy, and defense spending grow.
