Joshua Henry Misses Son's Soccer Game for Broadway Pressure
joshua henry said he missed his son's soccer game so he could rest for one of the biggest artistic days of his career. In an Instagram post, the Broadway performer described the choice as part of the cost of staying ready for work while raising children.

Henry wrote that "the pursuit of Dreams has a heavy price tag" and said one of his children was disappointed to learn he would not make the game. He added, "There is no answer in those moments. Just a well of tears and a tighter embrace before the minivan drives away. Sometimes, it’s healthy to just sit in the Ache and not try to rush to an answer."
He also told other artists that they are not alone as they navigate the industry as a parent: "To every artist blessed enough to feel life’s beauty and pain as you pursue.. know you’re not alone. It’s hard but I’m grateful for this growth moment. Allowing myself to feel it all."
Broadway Names Respond
The post drew support from Caissie Levy, Cheyenne Jackson, Ana Gasteyer, Kristin Chenoweth, Donna Murphy, and Mandy Gonzalez. That response turned a private family sacrifice into a public exchange among performers who know the same schedule pressure: the job asks for rest, focus, and flexibility at the same time it takes weekends, evenings, and family milestones.
Henry's career gives the post additional weight. He received critical acclaim for his performance as Coalhouse Walker in Ragtime on Broadway, and his other credits include Into the Woods, Shuffle Along, Violet, Waitress, Carousel, and The Scottsboro Boys.

For parents in the same position, the practical takeaway is blunt: the calendar around a Broadway run can force a choice between a child's event and the energy needed to deliver on stage. Henry did not dress that up, and he did not pretend the tradeoff feels clean.
