Storm Prediction Center Flags Colorado Springs Weather for Tuesday Storms

Colorado Springs weather turns toward thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon, and the Storm Prediction Center has highlighted most of the region for a marginal risk of severe storms. The best chance for storms runs from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

That risk is level 1 out of 5, and the highlighted area covers most of the region except parts of southern Vermont. Highs are expected to reach the low to mid-70s before storms move through.

Manchester Londonderry Springfield

The marginal risk begins around Manchester, Londonderry, and Springfield and extends north from there. Parts of southern Vermont could still see thunderstorms, but they are not likely to be strong or severe.

If storms strengthen, strong winds are the main threat. Isolated batches of small hail are also possible Tuesday, while the flood threat stays very low.

Roadway Ponding Tuesday

Thunderstorm downpours could still leave ponding on roadways or in low-lying areas. Drivers in the affected area will have the clearest picture of changing conditions by using the WCAX First Alert Weather App to track whether severe weather is moving into their area.

The forecast does not point to a widespread flooding issue, but it does leave a short window when stronger storms could produce localized problems on roads. For anyone traveling Tuesday afternoon, the useful step is to watch conditions between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and check the app before heading out.
