Sammarco Leads Hellas After 1-1 Draw, Relegated to Serie B
sammarco saw Hellas Verona draw 1-1 at Juventus, but the point did not save the club. Lecce’s win over Pisa pushed Verona into Serie B, ending any chance of changing its fate with four matches still to play.
Turin Still Delivered a Point
Kieron Bowie opened the scoring for Verona and said it was “a great emotion” to score in that stadium. Juventus equalized from a free kick, and Bowie said the visitors may have deserved the draw despite the frustration of seeing the lead vanish.
The result gave Verona something to take from the night on the field. Bowie reached three goals in the season, and he said the team had played “a great match” while still feeling the sting of the equalizer.
Sammarco’s Demand For Pride
Paolo Sammarco said the players wanted to make “una prova d’orgoglio” and did it “dall’inizio alla fine.” He added that they helped one another on the pitch, which was the part that pleased him most.
He also pointed to the size of the task ahead. Sammarco said the last four matches would be very complicated, starting with Juventus, and that the team had to play with pride and “cattiveria, agonistica” to do the best possible.
Four Matches After Relegation
The draw in Turin showed Verona could still compete, but Lecce’s result at Pisa settled the standings before the season was over. The club will finish its remaining four matches already relegated, with Serie B now the destination next season.
Bowie said everyone had given their maximum from the start of the season and that the group must keep doing that to honor the shirt. For Verona, the next games are no longer about escaping relegation; they are about the way the season closes after the drop has already been decided.
