Alexa Chung Wears Dior at 2026 Met Gala, Tom Sturridge Mentioned

Alexa Chung wore a Dior gown to the 2026 Met Gala, and tom sturridge sits in the same public orbit as the night’s quieter style conversation. The look came from Jonathan Anderson, who created a fluid chartreuse dress with a low back, a couture headpiece, and a single lily bloom.

Chung said the dress matched her instinct to move between restraint and exposure. “It’s in my sartorial DNA to want to cover up and wear something structured and architectural, but it’s so lovely to wear something a bit more sensual,” she said.

Jonathan Anderson’s chartreuse Dior

The gown referenced Monet and Anderson’s Dior fall 2026 show in the Tuileries Garden, tying the Met Gala look back to the designer’s runway work rather than treating it as a one-off red-carpet build. Chung said the result was “There’s something of the sprite about it,” and also described it as looking more supermodel than supernatural.

That framing matters because the outfit was built as a specific answer to the event’s Fashion Is Art dress code, not a generic couture look. Chung said Dior was her dream scenario, which narrows the field of what she was aiming for before she ever got dressed.

Danielle Goldberg and Matt Bevan

Chung said she called stylist Danielle Goldberg and personal trainer Matt Bevan ahead of the Met Gala, adding that pulling in a clear team had been “really helpful.” She put it more bluntly: “Usually, I’m just sort of raw-dogging it alone, so it’s been really helpful.”

Her prep was practical, not theatrical. She bought a back exfoliator from Aesop at her East London home, said hydration and carb loading were key, and added, “Now is not the time for experimentation.”

Headgear and first Met Gala

The couture headpiece came from another Dior reference point: the cyclamen Anderson was gifted by John Galliano when he took over at the house. Chung said, “I quite like a bit of headgear,” and added, “It’s really good conversationally to make your point with headgear on, so I’m all up for adding that width.”

Her Met Gala history gives the 2026 appearance more shape. Chung said her first Met Gala left her not knowing she had to walk the giant staircase and shake hands with everyone, or that trumpets would announce dinner; she called it a Cinderella ball. In 2023, she wore a semi-bridal spray of crochet flowers by Róisín Pierce, and her first look in 2009 featured Philip Lim trousers for the American Woman theme.

For this year, Chung said she was trying to feel “really [herself] in this other alien environment,” which is the whole point of a Met Gala look that has to read on a staircase, in photographs, and against 16 years of her own history. The Dior gown does that without over-explaining itself.
