Todd Monken as Calais Campbell Returns to Ravens on One-Year Deal

todd monken is getting Calais Campbell back in Baltimore, with the veteran defensive lineman signing a one-year deal to return for his 19th NFL season. The move gives the Ravens an experienced interior presence as they try to strengthen a group that was already a priority this offseason.

Campbell Back in Baltimore

Campbell, who played for the Ravens from 2020 to 2022, is expected to land in the $5.5 million range. He will turn 40 on Sept. 1, but he is coming off a season with the Arizona Cardinals in which he posted 6.5 sacks and 16 quarterback hits.

He also ranked third among defensive tackles in pass-rush win rate last season. That combination of production and durability is the reason the Ravens are moving quickly to add him back into the mix.

Ravens Line Gets Reinforcement

The fit is straightforward. Baltimore already has Nnamdi Madubuike, and his doctors believe he will be able to resume playing this season after recent surgery. If he returns at full strength, Campbell would give the Ravens another interior rusher to pair with a line that has been identified as a priority.

That same front has depth pieces in John Jenkins, Broderick Washington Jr., C.J. Okoye, Aeneas Peebles and seventh-round rookie Rayshaun Benny. Campbell gives the Ravens a proven option with far more snap-to-snap credibility than a typical late-summer addition.

DeCosta Keeps Building

The move also fits a roster plan that has already shown some flexibility. On Thursday night, Eric DeCosta said he had talks with a team about trading down in the first round, and he said the furthest he would go back was from No. 14 to No. 17.

Campbell’s return closes a loop that had been open since the 2024 deadline, when he was very nearly traded back to Baltimore by the Dolphins before the deal fell apart at the end. This time, the Ravens get him without waiting on another deadline push, and the defensive line gets the veteran help that had been targeted all offseason.
