Michael Owen Urges Liverpool to Replace Salah With Jarrod Bowen
Michael Owen wants Liverpool to replace Mohamed Salah with jarrod bowen, and he has named the West Ham captain as his pick if the Reds need a new right winger this summer. Salah said in March he will leave Anfield after nine years at the end of the season, putting Liverpool on the market for a direct replacement.
Owen on Bowen
Owen described Bowen as “absolutely brilliant” and said he would be his choice to step into Salah’s role if West Ham were relegated. “I think he is brilliant,” he said, adding that Bowen would fit for him if West Ham went down.
He went further in the same remarks: “I think he's a brilliant player. I would be taking him to the World Cup and, as I say, you know, I don't want to upset West Ham fans, but if they went down, then he would be my idea of somebody to replace Salah.”
Bowen’s West Ham output
Bowen has produced eight goals and 10 assists in 35 Premier League matches for West Ham this season. He has 84 goals in 277 appearances for the club since joining from Hull City in 2020, and he still has four years left on his contract.
Owen backed up the praise with a detailed assessment of Bowen’s game. “But, if West Ham went down, he would fit for me. I think he's absolutely brilliant. I was lucky enough to do like a striking master class for a TV show we did last season with him, and I couldn't believe it. Honestly, left foot, right foot, bang, bang, corners, pace. I mean, a real top finisher.”
Liverpool and West Ham pressure
Liverpool’s need is clear because Salah is set to leave at the end of the season, and there is expected to be significant interest in Bowen if the situation at West Ham changes. He could be available for around £30million this summer if West Ham are relegated.
That possibility depends on West Ham’s league position after a 3-0 defeat at Brentford and Tottenham’s 2-1 win against Aston Villa left them as the bookmakers’ favourite to go down to the Championship. For Liverpool, that turns Bowen from a rival captain into a realistic target with a price that could shift quickly if West Ham slip any further.
