Stefan Bajčetić Remains in Gym Work, Still Not Near Training

stefan bajčetić is still working in the gym as part of his rehabilitation after a setback earlier in 2026, and he is not close to rejoining team training. The Liverpool midfielder, 21, has been out of the team since 2024, stretching an absence that has already taken him through loans, surgery and another delayed return.

AXA Training Centre

He has not returned to outdoor work at the AXA Training Centre, even for individual sessions, and he remains short of the point where team training becomes realistic. That leaves Liverpool without a player who has yet to feature under Arne Slot, while his contract still runs for another season.

Bajčetić’s latest setback sits on top of a longer run of interruptions. After Jurgen Klopp introduced him from the bench in a Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur two years ago, that appearance ended his spell on the sidelines because of growth-related injuries. It was his 12th league appearance for Liverpool, and he has not played for the club since.

Las Palmas and Salzburg

His time away was extended further by loans with Red Bull Salzburg and Las Palmas, where he made a combined 33 appearances in all competitions. He then suffered a hamstring injury that required surgery, and his last appearance on a football pitch came in May 2025 for Las Palmas against Sevilla.

Injury problems have followed him through that stretch, too. His international progress was interrupted after his Spain Under-21 debut in the autumn of 2023, and calf, back and hamstring issues have repeatedly forced his programme to be scaled back just as a comeback seemed close.

For Liverpool, the practical reading is simple: one of their more highly rated young midfielders is still unavailable, and there is no sign yet that he is ready to rejoin the group. For Bajčetić, the next step remains the same one he has not yet cleared — moving from the gym to outdoor work, then into individual sessions, before team training can even enter the picture.
