Mohamed Salah replacement: Michael Owen wants Jarrod Bowen for Liverpool
Michael Owen wants Liverpool to make Jarrod Bowen their replacement for mohamed salah. The former Reds forward says Bowen would fit if West Ham go down, with Salah set to leave at the end of the season after nine years at Anfield.
Owen backs Bowen
Owen was direct about the West Ham captain when speaking about Liverpool’s search for a new right winger. He said: "I think he is brilliant."
He then added: "How do you know? I have said that to a couple of my mates the other day. I said, if I had one player. Now, obviously, Jarrod Bowen's a legend of a player, West Ham, you know, adore the man, and rightly so."
His clearest line came next: "I think he's a brilliant player. I would be taking him to the World Cup, and, as I say, you know, I don't want to upset West Ham fans, but if they went down, then he would be my idea of somebody to replace Salah."
Salah’s Liverpool numbers
Salah’s exit talk gives Liverpool a real hole to fill. Since moving from Roma in 2017, he has scored 257 goals in 440 appearances for the club, a return that explains why any successor will be measured against a huge standard rather than a short-term gap.
Bowen’s case rests on output and age profile. He has 84 goals in 277 appearances for West Ham, and this season he has added eight goals and 10 assists in 35 Premier League matches.
West Ham and Bowen’s value
Bowen joined West Ham from Hull City in 2020 and is due to turn 30 in December. He still has four years left on his contract, but he could be available for around £30million this summer if West Ham are relegated from the Premier League.
That creates the tension in Liverpool’s search. They need a new right winger, Owen has already named one, and the price could become far more manageable if West Ham fall into the bottom three. For Liverpool, the question is not whether Salah leaves — he has said he will exit Anfield after nine years in the summer — but whether Bowen becomes the player they move on before the market shifts again.
