Smilla Soenderby wins Mauritius MCB Ladies Classic by one stroke

Smilla Soenderby won the inaugural MCB Ladies Classic in mauritius by one stroke at Belle Mare Plage, closing with a birdie on the 18th hole to finish 14 under par. The victory came after a final-round 67 and gave the 28-year-old her second Ladies European Tour title, following her 2023 KPMG Women's Irish Open win.

Belle Mare Plage finish

Soenderby said after the win, "Thank you to my mum who has been with me as my caddie this week. It has been so special and we will remember it forever," and added, "It has been an amazing event and I hope we come back here. I really enjoyed the Legend course and I'm so happy with this win." Her late birdie mattered because Kajsa Arwefjall and Casandra Alexander had both reached 13 under and would have forced a play-off without it.

Chasing the clubhouse target

Arwefjall set the clubhouse mark with a closing 66, then Alexander matched her at 13 under by eagling the last hole. Anna Hewson finished in a five-way tie for fifth after a closing 67, while Anna Zanusso produced a new ladies' course record of 63 on the Legend course at Belle Mare Plage to take fourth.

Results behind Soenderby

Agathe Laisne closed with a 69 to share fifth place, while Anna Foster carded a closing 68 and finished alongside Esme Hamilton on five under. Lianna Bailey finished in a share of 12th with rounds of 70, 69 and 70, and Jess Baker reached two under after her best round of the week, a 69.

The event was the first women's professional event held in Mauritius, so Soenderby's win becomes part of the country's first line in the women's game at Belle Mare Plage.
