Kyle Rittenhouse Hospitalized After Brown Recluse Spider Bite

kyle rittenhouse said he was hospitalized on Wednesday after a venomous spider bite and posted hospital photos on X. He also shared a picture showing where the bite appeared on his leg.

The 23-year-old wrote, "The communists couldn’t take me out and i’ll be damned if I let a brown recluse take me out" and followed with, "Disappointed I’m not Spider-Man now..." Brown recluse bites are not commonly fatal in adults, but they can be serious and require immediate medical attention.

Rittenhouse did not say whether he killed the spider after the bite. He also did not identify where he was treated.

The post adds a health-related episode to a public profile that first drew national attention in 2020, when he was 17. He traveled to an organized protest over the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, carrying an AR-15 rifle to defend local businesses.

During that protest, he killed two men and injured a third. He was later acquitted on all charges after arguing that he had acted in self-defense.

Since then, he has used his profile among right-wing supporters to talk about gun rights. In January, he urged gun owners to "carry everywhere," and in another post wrote, "Communists are gay. And anti-2A people are gay. Biden’s failed open borders policies created this ENTIRE mess."

He announced in December that he had married Bella Nelson Rittenhouse. For now, the immediate story is the hospitalization he described himself, along with the possibility that a brown recluse bite can turn quickly from a nuisance into a medical problem that needs treatment.
