Kathmandu forecast calls for 60% rain chance today

Kathmandu is forecast to see 23–25°C today, with rain likely at 60% as generally cloudy weather spreads across much of the country. The Meteorological Forecasting Division said light to moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely in Kathmandu and several provinces.

Kathmandu Valley Today

For people in Kathmandu, the day forecast points to rain, not just cloud cover. The Division also said the city should expect 15–17°C tonight, with light rain at 30%.

The weather pattern extends beyond the valley. Light to moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely at some places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces today, while some other provinces could see the same conditions at a few places.

Weather Systems Over Nepal

The Division said the country is under the influence of a western low-pressure system, local winds and a low-pressure area in the lower atmosphere near the eastern region. It issued a public caution for areas prone to rainfall, thunderstorms and possible weather-related disruptions.

Tonight, cloudy conditions are expected to persist in Koshi Province and the hilly and Himalayan regions, while other areas will remain partly cloudy. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at some places in Koshi Province and at a few places in the hilly regions of Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki.

Tonight Across the Hills

Light rain or snowfall is also possible at isolated locations elsewhere tonight, keeping conditions unsettled after the daytime showers. For residents in Kathmandu and the affected provinces, the practical step today is to plan around rain, lightning and slower travel through the evening.
