Central Alabama Tornado Watch Vs Warning Holds Until 11 p.m.

Central Alabama is under a tornado watch vs warning until 11 p.m. this evening, with a tornado-warned storm near the Montgomery area already showing how quickly conditions can turn. Some counties could be removed before the watch expires, but the evening threat still includes hail, damaging wind gusts and localized flooding.

Montgomery Area Storm

The strongest tornado parameters still appear to be farther south and west, a sign that the more favorable setup is not centered over central Alabama. Even so, an isolated tornado risk remains this evening, and the warning near Montgomery shows the region is not out of the woods while storms are still organizing.

Central Alabama Tonight

Rain and storms filling in across the area tonight should help limit instability and gradually lower the overall severe risk late tonight. The First Alert Weather Day should end very early Thursday, after the main round of evening storms pushes through central Alabama.

Thursday Into Tuesday Morning

Scattered morning showers are expected to taper off Thursday, then a spotty shower is possible far south Friday. Scattered showers could expand farther north Friday night into Saturday, but Saturday will not be a total washout.

The system responsible for tonight's storms will stall to the south and eventually lift north again as another disturbance moves out of the Southwest. That will bring an increasing chance of scattered showers and storms on Mother’s Day, though no severe weather is expected at this time. A stronger cold front arrives Monday, rain chances could end early Monday, and temperatures could be back in the 40s again by Tuesday morning.
