Yankees Select Brendan Beck to Major League Contract on May 7
The Yankees signed brendan beck to a Major League contract on May 7 and added him to the active roster before Thursday’s game against the Rangers. Beck, 27, still has not made his MLB debut, so the move gives New York another arm as it continues a three-game series tied 1-1.
Brendan Beck joins the roster
The club moved Beck onto the roster after optioning Yerry de los Santos the night before. Paul Blackburn was slated to start Thursday, and the Yankees were carrying a 25-12 record while sitting 0.5 games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League division race.
Beck wore No. 89 and arrived after a season spent in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 2026, he logged a 5.11 ERA over 37 innings, struck out 37 batters and walked eight.
Yankees' 2021 draft pick
New York drafted Beck in the second round of the 2021 MLB draft out of Stanford, and the organization has kept him moving through the system over three minor league seasons. Across 202.1 minor league innings, he posted a 3.38 ERA.
His most recent Triple-A run included 15 starts and a 4.44 ERA over 77 innings. That gives the Yankees a pitcher with innings on the upper levels, but one who is still waiting for his first big league appearance.
Rangers series and road trip
Beck’s promotion landed in the middle of a short swing against Texas, with the Yankees and Rangers entering Thursday even in the set. After that, New York was scheduled for a nine-game road stretch against the Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles and New York Mets.
Beck also spent time on the World Baseball Classic stage for Team Great Britain, where he threw four scoreless innings and struck out four batters. For the Yankees, the immediate takeaway is simple: he is in the majors now, with a roster spot open to use during a tight stretch of the schedule.
