Danny Röhl Expected to Stay at Rangers Next Season

danny röhl is expected to still be in the Rangers dugout next season, with Robbie Neilson saying he would be very surprised if the manager was sacked. That view comes as Rangers have fallen to back-to-back defeats and sit seven points off the lead, with third place now a real danger.

Neilson backs Rangers stability

Neilson, the former Hearts boss and current SK Lommel assistant manager, said he thinks Rangers will give Rohl time to build. "I myself, I think Danny Rohl will be there at the start of next season. I think they'll give him the opportunity to build," he said.

He tied that to a wider pattern at the club, where managerial change has come quickly and often. "I think that over the years, Rangers have spoken about trying to build a little bit of consistency, to try and keep a manager in place and they keep changing regularly," he said.

Rohl arrived mid-season after Russell Martin, and Neilson said the shift was visible quickly. "I think, having come in after Russell Martin mid-season, they got a real turnaround in the team with the players that were still there," he said. "I think they'll give him a chance. And I think he deserves a chance as well."

Rangers after the turnaround

Neilson pointed to the shape of the team under Rohl, saying Rangers looked "a lot more solid defensively, a lot more organised." That improvement is why he believes the club should give the manager the summer window to strengthen further.

He also said the job still has limits built into it. "But he's still a young manager, a young coach as well. Rangers is a big, big job. I think with time and a bit of support and also getting recruitment over the course of the summer. I would be very surprised if he's not there come the start of the season," he said.

The pressure point is the results to start the next campaign. Neilson said how long Rohl gets will be dictated by those results, and he added that the availability of a better replacement could affect the decision.

Derek McInnes and the job market

That leaves Rangers in a familiar spot: needing stability, but judged immediately if the early results go wrong. Neilson said the club may also be constrained by who is available, asking, "Are they going to get better than Danny Rohl at this point in time? I don't think so."

For now, the manager’s position looks protected by the improvement already seen and by the lack of an obvious upgrade. The next step for Rangers is less about changing direction and more about whether the start of next season rewards the faith Neilson expects the club to show.
