Officers at the Africville Seasides Marine Container Examination Facility used X-ray technology and detected 1,178 illicit packages inside the container. The packages were wrapped in carbon paper, and field tests identified the substance as suspected cocaine. CBSA seized the shipment and referred the case to the RCMP Federal Policing - Central Region.
Pompeo, Bixby and Ardizzi
Peter Pompeo, 58, of Montreal, Quebec, was identified as the importer. Investigators said he was suspected of conspiring with Taylor Bixby, 35, of Thorold, Ontario, and Zachary Daniel Ardizzi, 33, of Mississauga, Ontario. All three were arrested and charged. Canadian National Railway Police assisted with the transport of the shipping container after it arrived in Halifax, and Health Canada provided forensic testing.
May 13 in Newmarket
Henry Tillo said the case showed the value of cooperation between RCMP Federal Policing and federal agencies. He said the work was able to disrupt “a sophisticated international cocaine importation network before it impacted Canadian communities.” The accused are scheduled to appear in court on May 13 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket.
