Angeline Boucher Calgary: One dead after Woodlands assault
angeline boucher calgary police said one person died after a serious assault in the Woodlands community of southwest Calgary on Wednesday morning. Officers were called to the 2100 block of Woodview Drive SW at about 5:40 a.m., where they found one person dead at the scene.
The Calgary Police Service said homicide investigators took over after the death. CPS Acting Insp. Mike Anderson said nobody had been taken into custody, and investigators were speaking with several individuals as they worked the scene.
Woodview Drive SW response
Police taped off a large area along Woodview Drive SW during the morning commute, with evidence markers visible across the scene. Anderson said the scale of the response was part of the work of collecting evidence.
“When we respond to calls like this, it’s important to capture all the evidence available. Unfortunately, that necessitates a large crime scene and a little bit of inconvenience for local residents, but it’s part of us doing our job and being thorough and complete,” he said.

Police said in a social media post that investigators do not believe the incident was random. There was no word yet on the identity of the victim, leaving the case focused on the scene, the witnesses and the people police said they were already speaking with.
Anderson said, “When we arrived, we located a single individual who was deceased as a result of that assault.”
Woodlands resident response
Christy Kloepper, a Woodlands resident, said her family had recently moved to the area because they thought it was quiet, peaceful and family friendly. “We thought it was a safer place to bring up our little guy,” she said.
She said the blocked street affected her family’s routine. “Seeing our street blocked off — my fiance’s car is blocked off, so you can’t even go to work because it’s a crime scene — is not exactly what we like in the first two months of living in this area.”
Kloepper also said, “Pretty terrified to leave the house. Can’t say I really want to take my little one out for a walk.”
