Harvey Elliott Could Help Liverpool Cut Yan Diomande Fee
Harvey Elliott could help Liverpool cut the cost of Yan Diomande, with the midfielder set to return after a disappointing loan spell at Aston Villa. Liverpool wants attacking help this summer, and a deal built around Elliott would give it a way to lower the price.
Liverpool and RB Leipzig
Diomande has been tipped for a high-profile move after posting 12 goals and six assists in the Bundesliga this season. Liverpool is among the clubs interested, while Manchester United is also believed to be monitoring him.
The attraction is not just the numbers. Diomande has four years left on his RB Leipzig contract, which gives the German club room to drive a hard bargain if Liverpool tries to buy him outright.
Elliott and Leipzig
That is where Elliott enters the frame. Before Liverpool sanctioned his loan move to Aston Villa, RB Leipzig had already shown interest in him, and reports at the time said the club was only prepared to offer around £20M.
Leipzig eventually walked away, but that earlier link gives Liverpool a possible bargaining tool. Elliott made four Premier League appearances at Villa, a brief spell that did not rebuild his case in a way that would make a straightforward sale simple.
Klopp’s Red Bull role
Jurgen Klopp’s position as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull adds another layer to the negotiation. His role includes shaping transfer decisions at RB Leipzig, which means any Liverpool push involving Elliott and Diomande would sit inside a network that already has familiarity with both players.
Liverpool is also operating with pressure on its attack. The club expects Mohamed Salah to leave, and Hugo Ekitike may not return until the new year, so a cheaper route to Diomande would matter more than a clean cash deal. Elliott now looks like the piece that could make that move workable.
