Toronto Police Issue Dave Anthoney Avis Release Notice
Toronto police issued a dave anthoney avis release community safety notice on Thursday after he was freed from prison on statutory release and is expected to live in the Toronto area. The notice says he poses a demonstrated risk to the community, including to sex trade workers.
Avis is 50 years old and is under Correctional Service Canada supervision after leaving prison. Police said the notice was issued because of his demonstrated risk to the community, including to sex trade workers.
Toronto Police Notice
The Toronto Police Service said, “The Toronto Police Service is notifying the public about this offender because of his demonstrated risk to the community, including to sex trade workers.” The notice identifies him as a high-risk offender.
Police also said Avis will be living in the Toronto area after his release. That gave the notice immediate local focus: the warning is not about a distant case, but about a person expected to be present in the city.
Avis Release Conditions
Avis was convicted in Winnipeg in 2018 of sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, sexual assault causing bodily harm and three counts of forcible confinement. Under statutory release, federal offenders are released from prison under supervision after serving two-thirds of a fixed-length sentence.
He must have no contact with children under 18 unless a parole officer approves it. He must report all relationships with females, cannot contact the victims of his crimes, cannot consume, buy or possess alcohol or illegal drugs, and is to reside in a community-based residential or psychiatric facility.
Toronto Area Supervision
The supervision and residency conditions place Avis in a structured setting while he lives in the Toronto area. For people in the city, the practical change is the police notice itself: Toronto police have flagged his presence and identified the group they say faces the greatest risk.
That leaves residents with a direct instruction from the service’s warning — take the notice seriously, especially anyone who works in or around sex trade activity, because that is the risk police chose to name.
