Mad Swans Opens June 1 With New 12-hole Golf Course

Mad Swans opens its new 12-hole golf course in the South Downs on June 1, bringing a shorter golf option to the Surrey-Hampshire border. The redesigned layout lets guests play six, 12, or 18 holes, with the property built to work as both a golf stop and a day-trip escape.

The site sits in the South Downs National Park, about 55 minutes from London Waterloo and a short drive from Guildford and Farnham. It is the second Mad Swans location, following the original site in the Mendips.

Mackenzie & Ebert designed the course, which uses the rolling terrain of the landscape and includes newly designed greens and an island green. The format is the clearest shift here: instead of a full round being the only option, visitors can choose a six-hole visit, a 12-hole round, or stretch it to 18 holes.

The redesign also leans on sustainability measures built into the property. Existing materials were repurposed, while beehives, wetland restoration, water harvesting systems, and drought-resistant grasses were added to the mix.

That gives the South Downs opening a different profile from a standard golf launch. It is not just a new course; it is a mixed-use site built around golf, with padel and pickleball courts, an all-weather driving range, and a colorful Putt Patch mini-golf course tied to the same visit.

The Potting Shed and Hangout

The off-course spaces are part of the same opening day draw. The covered Swing Barn pairs golf games with cocktails, casual dining, and lounge seating, while The Potting Shed serves as the signature restaurant and The Hangout offers pizzas, desserts, cocktails, and family-friendly options.

For readers deciding whether to make the trip, the practical takeaway is simple: this is a South Downs venue designed for golfers and non-golfers in one stop, with the new 12-hole golf course at the center of that plan.
