Daniel Johns Relists 968-Square-Metre Merewether Block for $3 Million
Daniel Johns has put the last vacant piece of his former Merewether estate back on the market, relisting the 968-square-metre block at 8a Charlotte Street for $2.75 million to $3 million. The move follows the sale of the neighbouring lot in August and closes out the final part of a property he held for 25 years.
8a Charlotte Street Listing
The site sits in a cul-de-sac with panoramic ocean and city views and a north-east facing aspect. Salt Property is handling the sale. The listing says: “Imagine a vista where the ocean is laid out in full, often dotted with passing whales and dolphins, while by evening the city skyline lights up, adding another layer to the outlook,” and adds, “It's a front-row position in every sense, one that rewards thoughtful design and makes the most of a view you'll never tire of.”
Johns bought the broader Merewether property in 2000 for $1.4 million. It originally comprised a 1970s five-bedroom residence across two titles spanning 1942 square metres, and he lived there for 25 years before demolishing the home last May.
From Home To Empty Lot
Last year, Johns said, “This place has been a huge part of my life and creativity, but it's time for something new that reflects where I'm at now and what's next,” and described the house as a “private sanctuary and creative retreat.” He also said it was the place where he created Silverchair music after 2001, including Diorama and Young Modern.
The first vacant block at 1/8 Charlotte Street sold within three weeks of hitting the market, fetching $3.2 million in August. That sale showed there was appetite for the address even before the remaining block was relisted, and it leaves Johns with a clean exit from the old estate rather than a partial holdout.
Salt Property Moves
Lyndall Allan and Georgia Rickey are handling the current listing at Salt Property. Amanda Langlands and Kirk Langlands handled the earlier neighbouring sale through Robinson Property. The fresh asking range puts the remaining block in the same premium bracket as the first sale, but without the old home attached, the buyer is really paying for land, outlook and the chance to shape the last piece of the site.
