Brian Kelly Uses Claude and AI Every Day for Next Job
Brian Kelly said he is using brian kelly-style due diligence every day with Claude and AI as he prepares for his next coaching job after leaving LSU. He said the work is aimed at helping him answer questions that matter in front of an athletic director.

“Every day I'm trying to do my due diligence using Claude and and AI, and and trying to ask questions and and build some of those answers that that I think can be helpful for me as I get in front of an athletic director and say, 'Hey, you just haven't been using a U-Haul and traveling around the country.' I'm actually passionate about this and want to know where it's going.” Kelly said that while speaking with John Brice and Blake Toppmeyer.
He also drew a line between the tools he is using. “I think Claude is probably a little better at predicting some things outside the lines, where ChatGPT is much more driven right down the center,” he said.
Recruiting and transfer portal
Kelly said he has already laid down work on recruiting profiles and the transfer portal, two areas that can shape how a coach evaluates a roster and builds a staff around it. That is the kind of preparation he said he wants to take into a room with an athletic director, not just general talk about what a program needs.
“There's so many balls up in the air right now,” Kelly said following a question about the chaos surrounding college football. He said AI is going to have to be part of the next iteration of coaching, and that there is a lot of work a coach can do with it.
Next iteration for coaches
Kelly did not frame AI as a replacement for the job. “Look, it's not going to take over everything,” he said. He added, “Balls and strikes are here to stay in Major League Baseball, but you know, it's not taking over the game.”
For him, the point is augmentation, not automation. “I think it's enhancing it,” Kelly said, before adding, “I think AI, used the right way, and understanding how to use it can enhance the experience for everybody.”
That puts his next move in a different frame than the usual coaching search. Kelly is not just waiting for a call; he is using daily AI work to shape the answers he plans to give when that call comes, with Claude, ChatGPT and his own preparation all part of the process.
