Montero Faces Royals In Tigers Vs Royals Series Opener

Keider Montero gets the ball as tigers vs royals opens Friday night at Kauffman Stadium, with Detroit starting a six-game road trip against Kansas City. The 25-year-old right-hander is set for his seventh start of the season after the Tigers dropped four of six games on their homestand.

Montero Returns To Kansas City

Montero will face the Royals for the second time this month. On April 16 in Detroit, he allowed four runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out five over six innings.

His most recent outing went better. Against the Texas Rangers, Montero worked 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball, giving up five hits, including a solo home run, and one walk while striking out two.

Bubic Gets The Opening Start

Kris Bubic starts for Kansas City after his own April 16 meeting with Detroit. In that game, he allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over 4 2/3 innings.

The Royals right-hander enters this start with a 3-1 record and a 3.32 ERA. Montero is 2-2 with a 3.48 ERA, and both pitchers have already seen the opposing lineup once this month.

Friday Night In Kansas City

The series opener is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET in Kansas City, Missouri. Fans can watch on Detroit SportsNet or MLB.TV, and listen on Tigers Radio Network.

Detroit’s road trip begins with a division series that comes after a rough stretch at home, including a three-game sweep by the Boston Red Sox. The Tigers now have to reset quickly, and the first test comes with Montero on the mound and Bubic waiting on the other side.
