Steven Knight Brings Oasis Documentary to IMAX on September 11
Steven Knight’s oasis documentary will open in a limited theatrical run including IMAX on September 11 before moving to Disney+ later this year. The release gives the reunion-tour film a brief big-screen window first, a choice that keeps the theatrical side of the rollout in play before the title shifts to streaming.
Steven Knight and the Gallaghers
Steven Knight said, "I genuinely cannot wait for the world to see this film. I believe it captures the spirit and emotion of a global cultural moment and does justice to the wit and genius of two exceptional people. I wanted to tell the story of the brothers and the band, but just as important, the story of the fans whose lives the music has touched and sometimes changed forever. It is also the story of how music and songwriting can unite generations, cultures, countries and in a time of spite and division, give us all some reason to hope." That puts the documentary’s emphasis on the brothers, the audience, and the scale of the event rather than on a standard concert recap.
The film features the first joint interview with the Gallagher brothers in more than 25 years and charts Oasis’s reunion tour. Directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, it comes from Magna Studios and Sony Music Vision, with footage from rehearsals, backstage, and onstage giving the project a broader production footprint than a simple performance edit.
17 gigs in Cardiff
Oasis played 17 gigs last year, beginning in Cardiff in July, and the source says demand for tickets was high enough that many fans paid hundreds of dollars more than anticipated because of dynamic pricing. That pricing practice was later investigated by a government watchdog, so the film arrives with the tour’s commercial aftermath still attached to the story.
The documentary’s description from Disney calls it an "unapologetically uplifting account of arguably the biggest musical event of 2025, capturing the experience and emotions of the band and their fans across the world". The company’s bet is clear: give the film a short theatrical run, use IMAX as the premium draw, then move it to Disney+ later this year for the wider audience that missed the first pass.
Disney+ later this year
September 11 is the date to watch if you want the first look on the biggest screen available, while later this year is the point when the documentary widens out on Disney+. For viewers who want the event experience rather than the stream-alone version, the limited run is the only chance to see it in theaters before the switch.
