Tyler Glasnow Lands on 15-Day IL as Dodgers Tap Paul Gervase — Dodger Score
Dodger score: Tyler Glasnow is on the 15-day injured list with lower back spasms after leaving Wednesday’s start against the Astros after one inning. The Dodgers now have to cover at least two turns in the rotation without him while they move through 13 straight games and 19 of the next 20 days.
Glasnow exits after one inning
Glasnow tweaked his lower back while warming up for the second frame, then left the start before the outing reached two innings. He said afterward that it’s a minor problem with which he has dealt throughout his career.
The move lands after a strong start to his season. Glasnow had a 2.72 earned run average in his first seven turns through the rotation and was tied with Chris Sale for sixth in the National League with 49 strikeouts.
Dodgers shuffle the staff
Paul Gervase was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City and will be available out of the bullpen for tonight’s series opener against the Braves. Emmet Sheehan is taking the ball in that game, and Justin Wrobleski is lined up for the weekend finale.
The rest of the staff is already in motion. Blake Snell is set to be activated from the injured list to make his season debut tomorrow, while Dave Roberts said Roki Sasaki is likely to go Monday for the series opener against the Giants. Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani are lined up for the final two games of the San Francisco series.
Glasnow’s track record adds another layer to the injury. He has yet to reach 140 innings in an MLB season and has gone on the injured list at least once in each year since 2018 aside from the shortened 2020 schedule. For the Dodgers, the immediate task is straightforward: survive this stretch without another break in the rotation while the nine-man bullpen absorbs the short-term hit.
