United Airlines issues Denver Airport alert for May 6 cancellations
United Airlines added a Rocky Mountain Winter Weather travel alert for flights on May 6, 2026, and denver airport was among seven major U.S. airports covered. The carrier expected increased delays and cancellations on Tuesday and Wednesday because of a Rocky Mountain snowstorm.
Eligible travelers can rebook without change fees or fare differences if the original ticket was purchased on or before May 3, 2026. The new flight must be a United flight departing between May 3, 2026 and May 9, 2026, in the same cabin and between the same cities as originally booked.
May 6 United alert
The airline’s alert applies to flights on May 6, 2026, which is the date tied to the weather disruption. United said Denver International Airport was one of its major hubs and its fastest-growing hub, placing denver airport at the center of the service changes.
The company also said two airports in Wyoming were eligible for flexible rebooking, along with five other major U.S. airports in the alert. That gives affected passengers a narrow window to move itineraries without added cost, but only if their booking matches the date and ticket rules United set.
Colorado snow forecast
The Colorado Department of Transportation warned on Tuesday, 5/5/26, and Wednesday, 5/6/26, of heavy spring snow that could create wet, slushy and hazardous driving conditions early this week. It said heavy banded snowfall was expected to make travel difficult in the high foothills and mountain corridors, including I-70 Mountain Corridor, Larimer and Boulder counties.
Travelers were told to prepare for the storm’s peak impacts during the Wednesday morning commute, when slushy accumulations were expected to expand south across the Palmer Divide by Tuesday night. United’s disruptions were expected to increase on Tuesday and into Wednesday, matching the weather window that transportation officials flagged for the region.
United rebooking rules
The rebooking policy is limited to travelers who bought their original ticket on or before May 3, 2026. United waived change fees and fare differences for eligible customers, but the replacement trip has to stay within the same cabin and city pair.
That means passengers who can shift their plans to a United flight leaving between May 3, 2026 and May 9, 2026 have the clearest path to keep traveling without extra charges. For anyone booked through denver airport, the practical step is to check whether the ticket date and route fit the airline’s conditions before the weather window closes.
