Toronto schedules Ttc Closures as DVP shuts for weekend

Toronto’s ttc closures plan pairs with a full weekend shutdown of the Don Valley Parkway from Highway 401 to the Jarvis Street ramp on the Gardiner Expressway, starting at 11 p.m. Friday, May 8. The route will stay closed until 5 a.m. Monday, May 11, while crews do maintenance ahead of FIFA World Cup matches next month.

Andrew Posluns, the city’s chief congestion officer, said the work is vital to reduce any chance of flooding or other infrastructure issues during the World Cup. He also urged people to plan ahead and take public transit if possible.

Don Valley Parkway closure

The city said the weekend closure lets multiple divisions and partners complete work at the same time. Crews will finish work equal to 30 overnight lane closures over the two days, compressing a much larger maintenance job into one uninterrupted shutdown.

Posluns said, “This weekend was carefully selected to avoid concurrent closures.” He added, “We will have a number of mitigation efforts in place, including traffic agents.”

GO Transit weekend service

Toronto is also increasing transit support on the same weekend. GO Trains will run every 15 minutes on the Lakeshore West and East lines between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m., a schedule aimed at handling heavier demand tied to the closures and the busy sports calendar.

About 40,000 fans will need transit support to attend Saturday’s match between Toronto FC and Inter Miami CF at BMO Field. Posluns said anyone choosing to drive downtown this weekend should allow extra time because of the closures.

Toronto maintenance delays

The maintenance was originally planned for last fall, but the Blue Jays’ World Series run disrupted that timeline. The work was shifted into November 2025, then delayed again by an early snowfall. City officials later moved it to April before canceling that attempt because of wet weather.

The result is a tightly packed weekend: one full DVP closure, added traffic management, and more frequent GO service while Toronto tries to clear overdue work before the World Cup schedule begins.
