Reform UK wins control of Calderdale Council in Yorkshire

Reform UK won control of Calderdale Council in yorkshire, ending Labour rule after all-out local elections across West Yorkshire. The party took 29 seats on the council, while Conservatives lost all seats and residents now face a new controlling group at the authority.

Calderdale Council seats

The result came as local elections in England covered more than 5,000 seats across 136 local authorities and six mayoral races. All-out elections were held in Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield, putting multiple West Yorkshire councils into the same round of voting.

Reform councillor Dan Sutherland said people in the area "are desperate for change" after the party was reported to be taking control of Calderdale Council. The tally there also included 14 Independents, 12 Greens, nine Conservatives and five Liberal Democrats.

West Yorkshire leaders

Several local leaders lost their seats in the same round of results. Bradford Labour leader Susan Hinchcliffe lost her Windhill and Wrose seat, Kirklees Labour group leader Carole Pattison lost her Greenhead ward seat to the Greens, and Wakefield Labour leader Denise Jeffrey lost her seat to Reform.

In Leeds, council deputy leader Jonathon Pryor saw his seat go from Labour to the Greens. In Bradford, Reform became the largest party after previously having no representation, and it took the biggest percentage of seats on the council followed by the Conservatives.

Bradford result next

With the final seats in Bradford set to be announced tomorrow, live coverage of the West Yorkshire local election results ended before the full count was complete there. The remaining Bradford result will decide the final shape of that council, but Calderdale has already changed hands and Reform now enters as the controlling force.
