Team Leos and Luca set for 1.5km Bristol Half Marathon run

Three friends are set to take on the bristol half marathon's 1.5km Mini Great Bristol Run in Bristol, with Team Leos and Luca raising money for Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal. Leo P started the idea, and Leo N and Luca P joined him for a run shaped as much by family history as by race day.

Team Leos and Luca

The group includes Leo N, Leo P and Luca P, all children taking part in the race for runners aged three to eight. The friends trained in their school’s athletics club and football team before race day, building toward a short city run that has become a fundraiser for Bristol Children’s Hospital’s charity appeal.

Leo N was born with multiple heart conditions and underwent life-saving open-heart surgery at seven days old. He continues to manage his condition with ongoing treatment, and that medical history sits behind the team’s effort on the course.

Leo P Starts the Fundraiser

Leo P said the idea to support Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal began with him, and the plan quickly became a shared one. Luca is recovering from a procedure that assists his eating and drinking challenges after being diagnosed with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, giving the team one more reason to run as a unit.

Adley, Leo N’s sister, was born with her major organs in her chest and needs regular care and appointments. That is the wider family context around the group’s race, and it explains why the appeal and Bristol Children’s Hospital are central to the day for them.

Bristol Finish Line Plan

Leo N and Leo P plan to loop back after completing the 1.5km run so Luca can cross the finish line alongside them. The finish is more than a formality for Team Leos and Luca; it is the part of the run they have built around so all three friends end it together.
