Cory Barlog Hints at Faye-led God Of War Spin-off
Cory Barlog hinted at a new god of war project centered on Faye during a recent Bluesky conversation, adding fuel to speculation around Santa Monica Studio’s next move. The chatter matters because the studio is already tied to at least two new God of War installments, including a Trinity Remake and a separate spin-off plan.
February reveals
In February, PlayStation’s State of Play officially revealed a new God of War title and God of War: Sons of Sparta, with the new title described as God of War: Trilogy Remake starring TC Carson as the original Kratos voice actor. Sons of Sparta was presented as a 2D platformer and a prequel to the whole franchise, which makes the franchise pipeline look broader than a single sequel cycle.
Back in March, NateTheHate said Faye would be the main character of the new God of War video game, and he added that the gameplay would be different from the Norse God of War titles. He also said an announcement is expected to happen this year and that the game could release in the first half of 2027.
Barlog and Bluesky
Recently, Barlog’s Bluesky exchange pushed the Faye project back into the center of the conversation. A reply from Zakk Mylde said, “To own nate the hate for a week.” That line landed because it tied Barlog’s comments to the earlier leaks rather than treating the rumor as fan speculation.
Last month, MP1st reported new details about the upcoming God of War game dedicated to Faye, saying it would explore East Asian mythology and serve as a prequel to God of War. The same report said Kratos is expected to appear in a cameo role, while Faye would use Merlin, a talking sword, and fight alongside a companion described as a gelatinous cube.
What the slate suggests
At least two new God of War installments are now part of the public rumor mill, one of them a mainline game possibly set in Egypt and the other the Faye-led spin-off. Amazon is also developing a TV show based on God of War and God of War: Ragnarök, so the franchise is spreading across game and screen in parallel.
The practical read is simple: the next public move should clarify whether Sony is treating Faye as a one-off experiment or the start of a wider branch for the series. Barlog’s comment did not settle the release plan, but it did push the story from leak territory into the kind of conversation that usually comes before a formal reveal.
