Liam Scales Signs Celtic Deal Through 2030 After Interest
Liam Scales has signed a new Celtic contract that runs until 2030, ending any doubt over where he wants his next few seasons to be spent. The defender said he had outside interest during his five years at the club, but he would rather stay in Glasgow than move on.
Scales Commits To Celtic
“I love it here, I love living in Scotland. I love playing for the club and the longer I can do that, the better for me. I’m really happy with it,” Scales said after the deal was signed.
He added that the talks had been going on for a couple of months and tied the new deal to the part he has played this season: “It had been ongoing for a couple of months. I suppose I played a big part this season and they wanted to show that they value me.”
The contract reward fits a player whose role has changed sharply. Scales has gone from being on the edge of the squad to becoming one of Celtic’s most relied upon defenders, and Brendan Rodgers repeatedly praised his consistency along the way.
Outside Interest And A Shift
Scales said there were moments when leaving looked more possible, especially when he was not playing under previous managers. Even then, he said there was never a point when he felt pushed toward the exit.
“There might have been interest, but nothing that really would have made me knock a door down to leave,” he said. “At times, maybe when I wasn’t playing under previous managers, I would have been more interested, career-wise. In hindsight, I’m glad I never did [leave].”
That is the key twist in the story: a player who once looked vulnerable at Celtic is now tied down through 2030 after making 52 appearances across all competitions this season. The deal reflects how quickly his standing changed once he became a regular option.
Rodgers, O'Neill And The Present
The move also settles a situation that had been open for months and removes any short-term uncertainty around a defender who had previously been on the edge of the squad. Scales said he wanted the deal because he would rather be at Celtic than anywhere else, and the club moved to match that commitment.
“I wanted to commit to the club because I would rather be here than anywhere else. It kind of worked for both parties,” he said. For Celtic, the outcome is simple: one of their most used defenders is now secured through 2030 after a season that changed his status and his options.
