Batchelor Says Hull KR Reset Sparks Six-Win Run Before Wolves Vs Hull Kr

wolves vs hull kr arrives with Hull KR carrying six straight wins into this afternoon's Challenge Cup semi-final, a sharp reversal after they lost three of their first four league games. James Batchelor said the response began with difficult conversations about standards, and the run has left Hull KR 80 minutes from another date at Wembley Stadium.

Batchelor And Hull KR Reset

Batchelor said the squad did not talk around the problem after the early slump. “We had some tough conversations after that and they were all around how to get to where we want to be, we have to improve week to week in the games, but day-to-day training and just keep chipping away at it like that,” he said. “That's how we sort of focused on things to try and turn it around, and I think we started to bear some of the fruit of that.”

He pointed to performance levels as the real issue behind the poor start. “I think there was some stuff we could have probably dealt with mentally better, but at the same time, we weren't playing up to our levels as individuals or as a group,” Batchelor said. “Ultimately at the start of the season, we just weren't good enough at that and that showed in the results and the table.”

Hull KR Defence Tightens

The turnaround has been built on control. Hull KR have conceded 34 points in their last five games, and Batchelor said that side of the work is central to how they play. “That's something that we pride ourselves on and something that we drive,” he said. “So once we've sorted that out, we've started finding a rhythm, started enjoying those tough moments, and when you're on the back foot and coming through those, that's back to being us.”

The numbers fit the story. Hull KR now face Warrington Wolves in a repeat of last year's final, and Warrington have lost the last two Cup finals. Hull KR's six-game run has taken the edge off the early-season damage and put them back in position to challenge for another shot at Wembley.

Wembley Pressure Returns

Batchelor also tied the semi-final to what he felt after Hull KR lost at Wembley in 2023. “When we lost at Wembley [in 2023], I remember how that sort of drilled me and fuelled me in certain games and at certain times,” he said. “So I know they have that feeling, from the past two years really they'll be hurting and some of them will be real desperate to put that right because it's not a nice feeling.”

That leaves Hull KR with a familiar task and a sharper edge. Their early results did not sink the season, but the semi-final now asks whether the standards they rebuilt in league play can hold up again against a team that has already felt Cup final disappointment twice.
