Dallas Weather: Severe storms reach Killeen-Fort Hood around midnight Sunday

Dallas weather forecasters said severe storms were expected to reach the Killeen-Fort Hood area around midnight Sunday, with hail, high winds and 2-4 inches of rain in the forecast. A line of thunderstorms was moving east from Gatesville and Copperas Cove toward Killeen and then Temple.

Fort Worth Forecast

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth was monitoring severe weather in Central Texas at noon Sunday as the system moved slowly south and southeast. Meteorologists expected the high temperature to reach 88 Sunday afternoon, before winds shifted to come from the north and northwest.

Killeen and Temple

Residents in the Killeen-Fort Hood area were told to expect thunderstorms to make their way into the area around midnight Sunday. The same storm line was continuing east toward Temple, keeping the threat focused on communities along that path.

Hail and Rainfall

The forecast called for high winds and hail, along with rainfall totals of 2-4 inches, according to the National Weather Service. The combination left little room for a brief shower pattern; the system was expected to bring a concentrated stretch of severe weather as it crossed Central Texas.

The Herald said it would update the story as news became available.
