West Ham Slip to Bottom Three After 3-0 Brentford Loss — Premier.league Table

West Ham are back in the premier.league table bottom three after a 3-0 loss to Brentford this weekend. The defeat leaves them one point from safety with three games left, and their escape route now depends on results elsewhere as much as their own.

Jamie Carragher on West Ham

Jamie Carragher said there is still hope for West Ham this season, but he set out how difficult the next step looks. “Are they (Hammers) going to beat Arsenal? I find that very difficult to believe,” he said on Sky Sports before Everton's 3-3 draw with Manchester City.

He then pointed to the margin for error around Spurs and Leeds. “So they’ve almost got to hope that Leeds could go there (to Spurs) and get a point.” The same thought ran through his next line: “Could they (Irons) get a point at home to Arsenal? Yes.”

Arsenal, Newcastle, Leeds

West Ham’s run-in is tight and specific. They host Arsenal next, then go away to Newcastle United, before ending the season against Leeds United at the London Stadium. That final fixture now sits inside a relegation fight that no longer sits fully in West Ham’s hands.

Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Aston Villa on Sunday night added to the pressure. West Ham will have to better Tottenham’s results over the next three weeks if they are to climb out, while Leeds are now all but secure in the Premier League and Nottingham Forest are also all but out of the relegation scrap.

Three Weeks Left

Carragher said West Ham’s best chance is to keep the fight alive until the last day. “That’s what West Ham have got to hope, that they can get it to the last day.” Nuno Espirito Santo’s side now have three matches to close a one-point gap, and the margin leaves no room for another flat afternoon like the one against Brentford.
