Mitchelton Man Charged After Bald Hills Mosque Threats

Police charged a 33-year-old Mitchelton man after verbal threats were made at a mosque on Telegraph Road in Bald Hills at 10:46am on 10 May. No one was physically injured, and the man fled before police arrived.

He now faces one count each of creating a public nuisance and disturbing a place of worship. Queensland Police Service said, "There is no ongoing threat to public safety."

The incident began when the man attended the place of worship and made the threats. Police later laid the charges after investigations into the 10 May incident.

The Queensland Police Service said it takes all instances of threats against cultural and religious communities with the utmost seriousness. It also said, "Everyone in Queensland has a right to feel safe, to not feel threatened or victimised."

Brisbane Magistrates Court

The charged man is due to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on 22 May. The case file is QP2600897258.

For people connected to the Bald Hills site, the immediate police position is straightforward: there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The matter now moves to court, where the charges laid after the Telegraph Road incident will be dealt with.
