OPP stop two drivers at 172 km/h on Highway 400
West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police stopped two vehicles on highway 400 near Parry Sound on May 7 after officers observed them racing southbound at 172 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone. The stop led to 30-day driver's licence suspensions for both drivers and 14-day impoundments for both vehicles.

OPP said traffic enforcement officers saw the vehicles travelling southbound at high rates of speed while overtaking surrounding traffic in a co-ordinated manner. The stop followed that observation on May 7, around 12:15 p.m., on Highway 400 near Parry Sound.
The two vehicles were observed travelling at 172 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone, according to OPP. Officers then conducted traffic stops on both vehicles and dealt with the drivers at the roadside.
Charges for Sudbury and Lynden
A 19-year-old from Sudbury is facing charges, and a 28-year-old from Lynden is also charged. All accused were issued Provincial Offence Summons.
Both drivers received 30-day driver's licence suspensions, and both vehicles were impounded for 14 days. Those measures removed the cars from the road immediately after the stop and left the drivers without licence privileges for the same period.

The accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on July 21, 2026. For drivers stopped on Highway 400, the practical next step now moves from roadside enforcement to court.
