AAA Says Michigan Gas Prices Drop 14 Cents to $4.73

Michigan gas prices fell 14 cents in the past week, bringing the statewide average for regular unleaded to $4.73 per gallon. AAA spokesperson Adrienne Woodland said the drop gave drivers some relief, but she warned that prices could reverse just as quickly.

A full 15-gallon tank now costs about $71, and the average remains 70 cents higher than a month ago and $1.66 higher than a year ago. Woodland said, "Gas prices in Michigan have dropped 14 cents compared to last week, giving drivers some relief" and "But with ongoing volatility, prices could change direction again just as quickly."

Ann Arbor and Metro Detroit

Ann Arbor has the highest price listed, at $4.79 per gallon. Metro Detroit is close behind at $4.77, and Benton Harbor is at $4.76.

Those prices sit above the statewide average, while Marquette at $4.50, Flint at $4.57 and Lansing at $4.67 remain below it. The spread gives drivers a clear reason to compare prices before filling up, especially with daily costs still running well above last month and last year.

Demand and supply

AAA said the decline came as demand, domestic gasoline supply and gasoline production all decreased. That mix has left the state with lower prices for now, but Woodland's warning points to the practical problem for drivers: the current drop may not hold long enough to change their next fill-up.

For Michigan drivers, the immediate takeaway is simple: the average has moved down, but it is still high enough that a standard tank costs about $71, and local prices vary enough to make shopping around worth the extra stop.
