Emilia Clarke Leads London Debut of Power of Women on June 3

emilia clarke will be one of five honorees when Variety brings its Power of Women event to London for the first time on June 3. The move extends a series that has already run in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville, and it pairs the event with charity donations tied to each woman’s chosen organization.

Clarke will be joined by Emma Corrin, Cynthia Erivo, Hannah Waddingham and Suki Waterhouse. Each honoree will appear on a separate cover of the accompanying Variety issue, giving the London launch a sharper editorial and commercial frame than a one-night event alone.

London gets the first Power of Women

June 3 puts London into a series that had previously stayed in the United States. Variety is also partnering with Lifetime for the event, and the company said the London edition will arrive alongside its Women’s Impact Report: London, which recognizes women in UK entertainment and media.

Dea Lawrence, Variety’s co-president and publisher, said, “As we expand our signature live events, London is a natural choice for the next Power of Women series” and “We thank our partners at Lifetime for collaborating with us to bring this influential event to London.” That gives the first London edition a clearer business aim: build the live franchise while connecting the honorees to a print package and charity tie-ins.

Five honorees, five causes

Clarke is celebrating SameYou, her charity for brain injury recovery. Corrin is celebrating War Child, a foundation dedicated to improve the wellbeing of children living in armed conflict. Erivo will highlight The Shameless Fund, which raises cash through global brand collaborations to power up international, national and grassroots non-profits to benefit LGBTQ+ causes.

Waddingham will represent Make-A-Wish UK, and Waterhouse is representing Facing the World, which fights for children with facial disfigurement. That structure turns the night into more than a tribute list: every honoree is tied to a named organization, and Variety said it will make a donation to each selected organization.

Why Clarke anchors the issue

Clarke brings one of the most recognizable television credits in the group, with four Primetime Emmy nominations for Game of Thrones and several Critics’ Choice Awards for the same role. Her separate cover in the accompanying issue gives SameYou an especially visible platform, while Corrin’s Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award for The Crown and Erivo’s Emmy, Tony, 2x Grammy Award-winning, 3x Academy Award-nominated profile widen the event’s reach across film, television and music.

Paul Buccieri, president and chairman of A+E Global Media, said, “As the founding sponsor of Variety’s Power of Women, we are incredibly proud to bring this celebration to London for the very first time to honor five truly remarkable individuals” and “There is no better moment to highlight these leaders; their work and dedication continue to make a profound impact and are an inspiration to us all.” He added, “Each of the honorees exemplifies what can be achieved when we come together with a shared purpose, and we are privileged to celebrate their achievements.”

The July release of Waterhouse’s new album Loveland and Waddingham’s upcoming turn hosting SNL UK this Saturday give the lineup a current-release hook, but the more important takeaway is simpler: London is now part of a live awards-style franchise that links publicity, print covers and donations in one package.
