Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management Orders Evacuation in Wickenburg Fire

The wickenburg fire near Wickenburg burned an estimated 15 acres and closed U.S. 60 in both directions near milepost 111. Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management crews also issued a GO alert and ordered residents in the affected area to leave.

U.S. 60 Near Wickenburg

The shutdown cut off traffic on U.S. 60 near Wickenburg while the fire burned southeast of the city along both sides of the river bottom. The department said the fire was burning in salt cedar, cottonwood, grasses and brush, and four SEATs were on order along with a Type 2 hand crew.

Residents from U.S. 93 to Zabel Mine Road were told to evacuate. The evacuation area also included residents from the railroad tracks west of U.S. 60 to the area east of U.S. 60, putting homes and businesses in the path of the response zone under immediate movement orders.

Jones Fire Near Wickenburg

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said, "The fire is burning along both sides of the river bottom & the highway, in salt cedar, cottonwood, grasses & brush". The cause of the brush fire was unknown as crews worked the scene.

The closure left a major route unavailable at milepost 111, and there was no reopening time for U.S. 60. For travelers and residents in the area, the immediate step was to follow the evacuation order and avoid the closed stretch until authorities reopen the highway.
